This fragment is a recreated detail from a Panathenaic amphora that is exhibited in the Civico Museum of Bologna, in Italy. 

The Panathenaic Games, held every four years in Athens in honour of the goddess Athena, was a religious festival that incorporated ceremony, cultural events, and athletic competitions. 

The prizes of the games were large ceramic vessels called Panathenaic amphorae. In the ancient world, these amphorae-prizes were very valuable and sought after due to their excellent decoration and high symbolism.

Handmade and hand painted. Museum-quality artwork.

Time-period of the original: Classical period, 470 В.С.

Location of the original: Bologna, Italy, Museo Civico

Material: cast/clay
